Pritzker prize winner Renzo Piano is planning to construct the new office and commercial building ‘FLOAT’ on the uncultivated land between Franziusstraße and Holzstraße in the southern part of Düsseldorf’s ‘Medienhafen’. WITTE Projektmanagement has been hired for project controlling. The 200-metre-long building consists of six individual, variously-shaped structures, connected via a six-storey (upper floors 1-6) access structure (‘Passerelle’) on the south side, parallel to Holzstraße. The three interconnected basement levels, containing public and private underground parking, serve to link the six building structures below the surface of the site. Upper floors can be used for offices and there is space for restaurants and retail on the ground floor. The trapezoidal floor areas with varying room sizes and few interior columns are ideal for open-plan use, but also allow for conventional cubicle offices.
