Berlin bekommt ein Straßenkinderhaus, die „BUTZE“. Am S-/U-Bahnhof Lichtenberg entsteht mit rund 3.400 m² Nutzfläche ein bisher bundesweit einzigartiges Haus, in dem obdachlose Kinder und Jugendliche voraussichtlich ab 2025 nachhaltig betreut und schnellstmöglich von der Straße geholt werden können. Das Projekt hat ein Investitionsvolumen von rund 19 Mio. Euro und wird zu 100 Prozent aus Spenden finanziert. Gemeinsam mit den Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützern dieses Projektes feierte Straßenkinder e.V. Ende März 2023 mit dem offiziellen Spatenstich den Auftakt des Bauprojekts. Eckhard Baumann, der Vorsitzende des Vereins, freute sich: „Noch immer wird dem Thema Jugendobdachlosigkeit in Deutschland zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Daher ist es für uns ein großer Moment, ein Zeichen für alle obdachlosen Kinder und Jugendlichen zu setzen. Mit der ‚BUTZE“ erhalten sie Hoffnung und eine neue Perspektive.“
Wir danken dem Straßenkinder e.V., Eckhard Baumann und seinem Team für das jahrelange Engagement für die Kinder und Jugendlichen, deren Weg nicht so gradlinig verläuft. Schön, dass wir den Verein mit unserer Kompetenz nach dem Bolle-Projekt in Marzahn auch jetzt beim Entstehen der „Butze“ in Lichtenberg begleiten dürfen.

Berlin is getting a new home for street children – the BUTZE. A site adjacent to the Lichtenberg underground and suburban railway station is to be developed to create around 3,400 m² of floor space in a building that will be the only one of its kind in Germany. The plan is to provide homeless children and young people with long-term support and get them off the streets as quickly as possible starting in 2025. An investment of around €19 million is slated for the project, a sum which is being entirely funded via donations. At the end of March 2023, the not-for-profit organisation Straßenkinder e.V. joined its supporters for an official ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of the building work. Eckhard Baumann, the association’s chair, expressed his delight. ‘The topic of youth homelessness is still receiving too little attention in Germany. So being able to take a stand for all homeless children and young people is a big moment for us. The BUTZE will bring them hope and new prospects.’
We would like to thank Straßenkinder e.V., Eckhard Baumann and his team for the many years of commitment they have shown to children and young people whose lives have taken a less than straightforward path. Having previously supported the association by offering our expertise on the BOLLE project in Marzahn, we are very pleased to be doing the same as the BUTZE in Lichtenberg takes shape.
